"Over the peaks silence reigns,"
was the description given by Goethe to this area's landscape. We invite you to follow in Goethe's foot steps and you will experience even today what once so impressed him back then.
The Biospheric Nature Preserve is characterised by great diversity in plants and animals:
over 45 plant floras with many endangered plants can be found here, for example, the white pine, a rare variety of elderberry, rare ferns and the "Troll" flower.
92 different varieties of breeding birds can be observed here, among them the black and grey woodpecker, the grey hen, the "Sperling" owl and the black stork.
The landscape is characterised by forests, creek valleys and mountain meadows. Along the mountain ridges one finds small areas of swampy terrain (rain swamps) which form because of the climatic conditions and the high precipitation levels.

The Educational Nature Path "Upper Vesser Valley"
The 500 metre long, senior citizen and handicapped accessible nature path will take you on a tour of the various faunas and floras and their animals and plants. It will show you the beauty and variety of nature during every season. The descriptive texts are in place from April to November.
Hikers may park on the hikers' parking lot at the entrance of the town. Disabled visitors may park at the start of the educational nature path.
