The Town of Vesser
Blick auf die Ortsmitte mit Kirche Wappen der Stadt SuhlWith around 220 inhabitants Vesser is the smallest community incorporated in the city Suhl and, although surrounded by the Vesser Valley Biospheric Preserve and Thuringian Forest nature park, it is only 15 minutes a way from downtown Suhl.
Hergersweiler is Vesser's sister community.
Vesser successfully defended its designation as an "officially recognised recreational center" in 1999 according to the new criteria specified by the Thuringian state.
The first recorded mention of Vesser as "Uezzerun" occurred in a document dated 900 A.D. where it was described as an iron smelting and forging center.

Its development as a village began in the early 15th century. A document dated May 2, 1406, mentions a forge in the Vesser valley. Another documentary reference to Vesser occurred in the tax register of 1468 where the Triebel brothers are listed as owners of a forge on the Vesser river.

The community received its name from the small stream Vesser which springs from the Eisenberg (iron mountain) and snakes its way through the upper Vesser valley, the town of Vesser and the lower Vesser valley where it then joins the Breitenbach and Schleuse rivers.

Vesser is surrounded by forest and mountain pastures. Its beautiful location in a valley, surrounded by forested mountains, makes it a favourite vacation spot for nature and hiking enthusiasts and also guests who just want to relax.
