A branch first of the Frauenwald church, later
of the Schmiedefeld church, the Vesser church was built in the traditional half-timber
style. The simple layout and ornamentation include galleries, the baptismal (1711), the
ceremonial cross (1712), the Triebel family epistles (1716), the organ (1789) and the bell
(1896). The pulpit was completed in the 18th century, presumably for another church. The
pulpit has paintings of Christ and four apostles dating from this period. The altar
statues of Mary and John also date from this period and were installed in 1842 when the
pulpit was incorporated into the altar. The "Eye of God" was added to the gable
which, like the church interior, was repainted during the last church renovation in 1912. .................................................................... By 1990 the church
had become quite dilapidated and structurally unsound. The church was gradually renovated.
With the support of the Historical Society, the whole parish, the city of Suhl and the
hard work of the architects, this monument was preserved. Movable seating will be
installed to make the church more versatile. |
